About the From Service to Scholar Scholarship

The AOC Foundation provides supplemental scholarships to students attending a college/university under the current GI Bill/VA Program. Five $2,000 scholarships will be awarded each year to five students studying in the fields of engineering or engineering technology and interested in working in aerospace and defense. Applicants must be receiving, or eligible to receive, education benefits under the current GI Bill. We are grateful for the generosity of Rohde and Schwarz USA, Inc. for funding these scholarships.

Applications are now closed for 2025.

Purpose Statement
  • To bridge the gap between GI Bill benefits and the true cost of completing a degree, this scholarship supports veterans who have transitioned out of active duty and are continuing their educational journey.
  • This scholarship recognizes the ongoing commitment of those who served. It is designed to help cover the critical yet often overlooked expenses – books, fees, technology, and housing – that the GI Bill may not fully support.
  • For those whose service to our nation continues in the classroom, this scholarship helps ensure financial obstacles don’t stand in the way of academic success and long-term career goals.
Eligibility
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
  • Applicants must be registered as a full-time student in an accredited college/university engineering, technology and/or EW-related course of study at time of application submission.
  • Applicants must be receiving, or eligible to receive, education benefits under the current GI Bill.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • NOTE: These scholarships are eligible to be renewed if applicants meet the eligibility and criteria standards noted above. If reapplying, students will once again be competing with ALL applicants during the next application period.
Selection Criteria
  • Academic excellence in an engineering or engineering technology area of study.
  • Study related to signals collection, signals processing, cyber technologies (offensive/defensive), electronic transmission and receipt of signals, and spectrum visualization preferred.
  • Student essay that outlines interest in and potential future contribution to national defense.
  • Students are selected by an independent organization not affiliated with AOC or the AOC Foundation. The selected students’ names, degree programs, expected graduation years, essays, and nominations (if any) will be presented to the AOC Foundation Scholarship Committee for routine confirmation of the selection process. No financial information is requested from applicants.
Deadline and Award Notice
  • Fully completed applications and accompanying paperwork must be received no later than May 31 of the awarding year.
  • Scholarship awardees will be selected and announced no later than the last day of June of the awarding year.
  • Scholarship funds will be awarded directly to the selected students for use in the next academic year.
  • Scholarship funds may be used for supplemental academic needs (i.e. books, transportation, etc.) that their GI Bill does not cover but need to support their educational purposes only.
