The Germans begin to use a radio-beam system, which they have been developing since the mid-1930s. It is a guidance system that uses intersecting radio beams to direct aircraft to a particular target in Britain. Professor Reginald Victor Jones receives a decoded message from a German Enigma signal being sent to a radio beam transmitter in France. This becomes known as the Battle of the Beams.
